inspiration: i love you, lucy

Ever since I was a child, there have been two actresses I have looked up to. Not because they are the best in their field (though they are not half bad) but because they had a lot of guts & hutzpah to both get where they got to (despite coming from hard backgrounds) & to really rise above - both in the acting and the social worlds.

These women are Lucille Ball & Grace Kelly.

With my grandmother living with us this month due to a hip injury, I have had to limit what I watch on TV. She's older, so my regularly scheduled programming (like 'How I Met Your Mother' or 'Law & Order: SVU') may not make sense to her. That means we've been watching a lot of 'The Price is Right', 'The Today Show' & just about anything on the Game Show Network.

Recently, however, 'I Love Lucy' has started to creep into our daily routine. I don't remember who originally put it on, me or her - all I know is that I've quickly begun to fall in love with Lucille Ball again  - both the actress & the character.

She's funny, beautiful & passionate - everything I hope to be one day.

Who are some of your favorite 'classic' actresses?

  1. Ginger Rogers and Debbie Reynolds - I'm a sucker for a good musical lol.

I love Singin' In The Rain and Top Hat amongst others.

In 50 years, who will we be referring to as classic actresses (well from this time period like we look back at the 30s/40s etc)?

  2. This brings back such great memories for me! I spent most of my childhood living with my grandma, and we watched I Love Lucy daily! Sadly she now has severe Alzheimers Disease and wouldn't know who Lucille Ball is, let alone me on most days... but this post truly brings back fond memories for me! THANK YOU!

  3. Like Hannah, I'd have to say one of my favorites is definitely Ginger Rogers...that lady could dance circles around Fred Astaire, and in heals! The other is Audrey Hepburn.

Lucille Ball has always been someone I looked up to as well. Not only was she did she stand her ground & build a fabulous career in a mans world but she did it while sporting gorgeous red hair haha. I Love Lucy is always my go-to feel good tv show.

  4. Well no one can go wrong with those two or Audrey, but my heart will always belong to Doris Day as well. :) I grew up on the movies of the 40s, 50s, and 60s, and it just doesn't get any better than that!

  5. When I was little I would stay up late to watch I love Lucy. I really liked the show and I think she's beautiful as well.
