The reason we as a society love New Year's is because we get a chance to start again. Even though we don't really get a clean slate to work with the thought of getting a new chance is just so magical.
I am particularly excited for this year's New Year's because it marks something special.
2013.
The year I graduate college.
I remember when I saw the year 2013 for the first time when I was applying to colleges. I thought it was an 'ugly' year (I hate odd numbers!) but at the same time, I knew it was mine because it was the year I was going to start my life.
When 2009 came around I remember staring at the TV for a long time going, "Wow. It's finally here. The year I graduate high school," and that was a great feeling because it was the year I got to start growing up. But now that 2013 is here, it's a little scarier. It's the year I become a person - instead of following a set path, it's now all mine to create. And that's both scary and exciting.
So, with that, here is what I hope for in my new year of independence:
1. Go to grad school.
I ask for this because it's what I want. It's truly what I want. I've known I want to continue my education for years now and I am hoping with all of my might that I can get into grad school at all.
If I got to choose one thing that happened this year, it'd be this. Because I just want it that much.
I go to my grad school conference from January 26th - January 28th. Wish me luck!
2. Graduate.
I'm on track to do so, but it's still something I really want this year. I don't think I have ever wanted to do something more. Graduating from college is such an honor and I want it to happen more than anything. Here's to hoping nothing gets in the way - because if I don't graduate this spring, I don't know what I'm going to do :)
3. Exercise regularly.
While I love paleo, I need to get some exercise into my daily routine as well. It doesn't need to be every day - I just need to do it and do it regularly (not once every three weeks!)
4. Read a few more books.
I love reading and recently I noticed that I rarely get to pick up a book that's not a textbook. So I want to make more time to pick up a good fiction book (any recommendations!?) and get reading.

ReplyDeleteGood luck with grad school and graduation - I remember how nerve-wracking all of that was. Reading is also something that I should do more often now, thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be an exciting year for you. Good Luck girl.
ReplyDeleteyay!! this is going to be such a great year for you. and i think it is so great you are trying to get some regular exercise in - i found that really tough in college. but if you schedule it in it makes it easier. i actually put my crossfit WODs and running on my calendar now.

I need to exercise regularly too. Technically, I need to just get off my ass but whatevs haha.
ReplyDeleteYou have nothing to worry about cause I'm sure you're going to do fab & get into grad school. Like I said before, they'd be insane not to accept you.
I love reading so much so I definitely want to find some more time for books too!
ReplyDeleteHere's to 2013 being fabulous in every way for you. And, if you don't graduate this spring, you'll graduate next. I know I know, but it won't be so bad after all. ;) And the reading is what gets me going these days. Sometimes I catch myself daydreaming of my book and wanting to go home so I can read some more. ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks like 2013 is going to be a big year for you! Good luck with everything!!
