an announcement & random thursday: music i never get tired of

Happy first Thursday of the New Year, everyone! With this first Thursday, I have an announcement to make: I will not be participating in Random Thursday anymore. I am so sad to have to make this announcement but between graduating, grad school and my last semester here at school (which includes a whole mess of credits and two shows), I just do not think I have the time to give Random Thursday the work it deserves. I am really sad to be leaving but so excited for the new things ahead for Random Thursday.
As always, feel free to link up with Linny's or Em's blogs every Thursday. I'll still be participating when I can and I'm so excited to see what they come up with!

That being said and done, let's get to my last Random Thursday! Hurray!
I am a huge music geek. If my iPod is not plugged in during my walks between classes, then my computer is playing something while I am at work or my speakers are playing something else at home.
I love music and love pretty much any genre - from country, to pop, to rap, to hardcore.
So this week's topic kind of excites me. To share some of the music that I am obsessed with? Kind of a real treat :)

The funny part is: if I had written this about 3-4 years ago it would have been all show tunes. I crack myself up when I see that I finally got through my show tune phase and, even though I still love them, started listening to some 'real' music!

1. Human by Ellie Goulding
and pretty much everything else by her...
Ellie's music is the kind of music that I can put on my iPod and just listen to for days and days. She's so freaking talented - most of the music she has written is all done by her - without too much other help. Additionally, she is so loved in Britain (where she's from!) that she got to sing at one of William and Kate's Wedding Receptions...!?
2. Caraphernelia by Pierce the Veil
I love pretty much any post-hardcore band, but this song by Pierce the Veil is one that I will never get sick of. I love their songs because they always have so much thought behind them - and then they tell their stories with awesome music playing behind it. Give some 'screamy' stuff a try and take a listen!
3. Warrior by Ke$ha
I'm obsessed with her. I am. I don't care if she's kind of gross - she's still super talented. And what I don't think that most people realize is that she's a parody artist - most of the stuff she sings about isn't real, it's just trying to bring attention to it. Which means she's even more talented :)
4. Gone by The Weeknd
This song. Is so good. I can't stop listening. Have been listening for months.
Take a listen and you'll see why!

  1. I'm so sad you're leaving us but so excited for you & your soon to be awesome grad student future. Thanks for helping make RT so damn fun!

Ellie Goulding is really good. The first time I heard her was in a Vegas club & they'd remixed 'Lights' with a faster beat & I loved it. Not gonna lie, I was a little bummed when I heard the original haha.

  3. I'm so sad you're leaving! But good luck to you with your school ventures :)

Ellie Goulding is so different from everything else on the radio these days. It's always nice to find an artist who is breaking out of the mould a bit!
